R. Phillip Bording, Ph.D., Advisor
Subject Matter Expert

Phil a is world renown as a computational scientist and a Subject Matter Expert in High Performance Computing. He is currently a Professor at the Memorial University of Newfoundland and Chief Computational Scientist at the Center for Applied High Performance Computing at Howard University.

He was instrumental in the founding of the CAHPC, and the visionary behind ground breaking ideas that have been applied by the CAHPC and QuaTeams including the application of new computational techniques to radar processing, and highly interactive supercomputing.

Previously Phil was Manager of Computational Sciences for the Center of Excellence in High Performance Computing for the Computer Sciences Corporation where he and his team produced the winning $140 million proposal and presentation for NASA's Goddard Center for Computational Science (NCCS).

While there retrained NASA's research programming community on using the 1392 processor Compaq parallel supercomputer. He also has extensive experience applying high performance computing in the commercial sector having worked in the area of oil exploration.

Phil has many publications, presentations and awards to his credit, and he is a gifted teacher and mentor (which is immediately apparent to those who have had the pleasure of seeing him give one of his exciting, highly interactive lectures to students).

On sunny days when he is in town Phil and his "cat" grace the Alabama country side to a beautiful v12 melody.
